Actress and comedian Joan Rivers is in critical condition after she reportedly stopped breathing during a surgery procedure, police sources told TMZ.

Ms. Rivers’ heart reportedly stopped beating at one point. An emergency call was placed at 9:39 Thursday morning, and the caller said, “We have somebody in either cardiac or respiratory arrest,” TMZ reported.

The 81-year-old comedian was reportedly having surgery on her vocal cords at a New York City hospital.
