FONTANA, Calif. — A Southern California man has been arrested on suspicion of raising and training more than 500 rosters for cockfighting.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department says 54-year-old Eugenio Carbonel was arrested Monday after deputies found 529 roosters on his Fontana, California, property.

Photographs taken at Carbonel’s property show rows of cages with roosters inside.

Authorities also found training mitts, metal gaffs and wound treatment medication used in cockfighting.
