PITTSBURGH (AP) - Trial is scheduled to open Tuesday for an elderly western Pennsylvania funeral director charged in the shooting death of a contractor.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review (https://bit.ly/1isaGP7 ) reports that the proceedings had been scheduled to open Monday but were delayed a day because the defendant couldn’t hear the testimony.

Ninety-year-old William Welsh of Homestead is charged in Allegheny County in the July shooting death of 58-year-old William Menni of McKees Rocks outside the funeral home owned by Welsh’s family.

Authorities said the two had argued about the demolition of a nearby vacant home. Defense attorney Frank Walker has said his client acted in self-defense.

Assistant District Attorney Michael Berquist said a second court reporter will sit next to Welsh so that he can read testimony in real time.
