HOUMA, La. (AP) - The Terrebonne Parish Council will consider an ordinance that would regulate development in the path of planned levees.
The Courier reports (https://bit.ly/1ipEJqQ ) the proposal would prevent people from digging borrow pits in the paths of planned levees.
Private landowners mine dirt from these pits and sell it, often for construction purposes.
Terrebonne officials say that with levee building underway or planned, some borrow pits are being dug in the footprint of levee paths.
The council will meet Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the Government Tower in Houma.
