PATCHOGUE, N.Y. (AP) - Police on Long Island have arrested a man after they say he stole an SUV and crashed into a store while fleeing police.

Police say Michael Nash was walking by a Jiffy Lube on Medford Avenue in Patchogue just before 3 p.m. Tuesday when he saw a parked SUV with the keys in the ignition, jumped in and took off.

An officer spotted him and tried to pull him over, but Nash sped away and eventually lost control and crashed into a store on East Main Street.

Police say the 20-year-old Nash was arrested on charges of grand larceny, unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and reckless endangerment. It wasn’t clear if he had a lawyer.

A woman in the store suffered a minor injury.
