RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Contestants will tell stories based on the theme “Metamorphosis” at the third annual Oak City Bard Brawl in Raleigh.

WUNC’s Frank Stasio will host the event, which will be held Tuesday evening at Kings Barcade. Competitors have seven minutes to tell a story with no pros and no notes. The winner will be crowned “Bard of Oak City” and will take a plumed hat patterned on one worn by Sir Walter Raleigh.

Proceeds will go to the Raleigh Public Record and Little Raleigh Radio. Record editor Charles Duncan says storytelling once was a way to spread important information and knowledge.
