THIBODAUX, La. (AP) - The Lafourche Parish Council will consider an ordinance that would nearly double the parish president’s salary beginning in January 2016.

Parish President Charlotte Randolph earned $70,899 in 2013. Several councilmen have said they wouldn’t consider running for the parish’s top spot because of the low salary.

According to the proposal, the president’s salary will be “established based on the prior year average compensation of the parish-wide positions of the Lafourche Parish sheriff, Clerk of Court and the assessor.”

If approved, The Courier reports (https://bit.ly/1hbIT85 ) the president’s salary would increase 84 percent to about $130,000.

The Lafourche Parish Council meets Tuesday evening at the Mathews Government Complex.
