GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - The Gulfport School District Board of Trustees has approved a resolution to seek a $41.2 million bond issue to construct a new Gulfport High School.
The Sun Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1hbmx6T ) a bond election to fund the new facility will be held May 7.
The current facility was completed in 1965 as the first centrally air-conditioned high school in the state.
School officials say the plan is to remove the oldest outdated facilities and construct modern educational spaces that meet the needs of Gulfport’s educational mission. This includes bringing all facilities to conform to up-to-date building codes, while also providing a safer school environment for the students.
Currently, Gulfport High School has multiple entrances that will be replaced with a concept that provides four administratively and technologically monitored entrances.
