BROCKTON, Mass. (AP) - The trial of an Abington man charged with fatally shooting a Brockton man three years ago has started.

Delaneau Pierre is being tried in Brockton Superior Court on murder and gun charges in connection with the June 2011 slaying of John Anthony Gray. The trial is scheduled to continue Tuesday after jury selection began Monday.

The Enterprise (https://bit.ly/1eo7rG7 ) reports that Gray, a father of three, was found with gunshot wounds to the head and left groin area in the passenger seat of a Lexus SUV that had crashed into a tree.

Pierre eluded authorities for nearly three months before being arrested in Taunton.

Prosecutors have not publicly disclosed a motive but say the killing does not appear random.

The 25-year-old Pierre has denied the charges.
