MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont State Police have identified the man shot and killed last week by a Brattleboro officer as 35-year-old Michael Santiago of Brattleboro.

State Police say Brattleboro Police obtained a search warrant in a drug investigation for the room and occupant of a room at a motel on Putney Road.

As officers entered early Friday, a still unnamed Brattleboro officer fired his weapon, hitting Santiago.

State police say once their investigation is completed, the case will be reviewed by the Windham County State’s Attorney and the Vermont attorney general’s office.
