SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - Santa Fe’s camera-equipped vehicles for speed enforcement remain on the sidelines as city officials continue the process of selecting the next contractor.

City officials allowed a contract with RedFlex Traffic Systems to lapse in January, and city purchasing manager Robert Rodarte says the selector vendor will be announced April 21.

According to the Santa Fe New Mexican (https://bit.ly/1jVCn5R), Police Department spokeswoman Celina Westervelt says officials have used the lapse as an opportunity to evaluate the program’s effectiveness.

City officials contend the use of the unmanned SUVs is a safety program that isn’t motivated by making money for the city.
