TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - A Spanaway woman accused of forging divorce papers and collecting $9,000 in child support pleaded not guilty Monday to theft and forgery charges.

Pierce County Superior Court documents say 34-year-old Jenelle Burke faked the divorce because she was afraid her husband would be angry she had not already filed it and would possibly keep her from their children.

The News Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1kDBFsz ) her husband is an Army ranger who was deployed at the time. He had to postpone a wedding he was planning after he found out he was still married.

Their divorce was finalized in November.
