PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) - A former Army captain from Pawtucket who served two 15-month tours in Iraq has launched his campaign to challenge Rhode Island Congressman David Cicilline for the Democratic nomination in this year’s election.
The Providence Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1gCoNyV ) that 31-year-old Matt Fecteau officially kicked off his campaign for the 1st Congressional District on Sunday in a speech to about 40 people at a nursing home in his hometown where he worked as a dishwasher when he was younger.
Fecteau’s only political experience was an eight-month internship at former Rhode Island Congressman Patrick Kennedy’s office in Pawtucket and at the White House as a National Security Council intern.
Two Republicans also are seeking the 1st District seat including former Marine Cormick Lynch and medical school student Stan Tran.
