AUTAUGAVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Autauga County emergency officials say they’re urging residents living near the Alabama River to evacuate because of rising water.

Autauga County Emergency Management Agency Director Ernie Baggett told the Montgomery Advertiser (https://on.mgmadv.com/1mVZltw ) Monday that residents near the river in Autaugaville are being asked to find safer areas and officials don’t expect parts of town farther away from the river to be impacted.

Autaugaville is about 25 miles west of Montgomery.

Elmore County EMA director Eric Jones says the agency has been monitoring local water levels closely but hasn’t ordered any evacuations.

Heavy rain Sunday and Monday prompted the National Weather Service to issue flood warnings spanning several areas of the state.
