MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A grant of more than $336,000 from the National Science Foundation will fund an undergraduate summer program at Alabama State University.

The Montgomery Advertiser reported Monday (https://on.mgmadv.com/OsIB0I ) that the grant is being used to designate ASU as a National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates site.

Alabama State officials say the program hosts 10 undergraduate students for a 10-week summer session on experimental research in nanotechnology and biotechnology with the goal of providing more hands-on learning to students pursuing degrees in science, technology engineering and mathematics.

The grant will provide participants with a $5,000 stipend, meal and travel allowances and on-campus housing. The $336,634 grant is expected to be used through March 2017.
