MIAMI (AP) - The Miami Foundation is looking for creative and classic ways to repurpose public spaces across Miami-Dade County. So far submissions for the 2nd annual Our Miami Public Space Challenge include a disc golf course and a nonprofit fish restaurant that could train military vets and others in the food business. Also on the list are the ever popular community gardens, shaded parks and farmers markets.

The Miami Herald reported Sunday (https://hrld.us/1skvUWb ) that the golf proposal had earned the highest number of “likes” at the online competition site so far.

Other proposals include pop up outdoor reading rooms, apps to find yoga classes and other community events and upgrades to the path beneath the Metrorail. One proposal suggests planting fruit trees there for the public to come and pick.

Organizers say the idea is to bring the community together not just with the results but also through the proposal process. Submissions are due April 8. Winners will be announced in May.

The Foundation says it expects to receive more than 250 entries. The competition is also supported by the Health Foundation of Florida and by the Herald, which promotes it.

Among last year’s winners: pop up farmers markets, a community chalkboard in the Wynwood Arts District and a community garden on a vacant lot.
