MOUNTAINAIR, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico State Police are investigating the shooting of a man who allegedly fired at two law enforcement officers in Torrance County.

KOAT-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1kgzeQY ) a Torrance County Sheriff’s deputy and an Estancia police officer went to investigate a report of a suspicious vehicle on State Road 55 around 10 p.m. Saturday, near the town of Mountain air.

State police say someone fired at both officers, who then returned fire.



Authorities say a man was wounded and airlifted to University of New Mexico Hospital.

They say he was listed in stable condition Sunday.

State police have not filed any charges and have not identified the suspect or the officers involved.
