TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A Pima County official says the millions of dollars needed for a proposed animal shelter is not unusual.
The Arizona Daily Star reports (https://bit.ly/1h0ALax) that Pima County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry said in a memo that the $22 million price tag attached to a new Pima Animal Care Center is typical of what such facilities would cost in other cities.
The county Board of Supervisors recently agreed to a measure seeking voter approval for $22 million in bonds in a general election in November.
Republican Supervisor Ally Miller says the fees for consultants, furniture and other related needs are excessive.
Huckelberry says the cost is high because of the scale of work required.
According to the memo, the shelter would include medical and surgical facilities and a place for community gatherings.
