MERIDEN, Conn. (AP) - Police say efforts by 20-year-old woman commit suicide by driving her car into Hanover Pond in Meriden were foiled by two men who smashed out car windows and rescued her.

The rescuers were acquaintances who were previously in the car with the woman when she entered the water early Saturday.

Authorities say the woman is receiving psychiatric treatment and is safe at this time. Her name is being withheld.



Police say the incident occurred near Camp and Meadow streets.
