ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - A 40-year-old Wasilla man has been charged in the death last month of his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son.

Jyzyk (HUH’-zeek) John Sharpe faces second-degree murder and manslaughter charges following his arrest Thursday night. Charging documents say he was caring for three of his girlfriend’s children when one died from “blunt force trauma.”

The Anchorage Daily News reports (https://is.gd/CFfYtJ ) Wasilla police responded to reports of a child not breathing at a home at 1:09 p.m., March 21. The child, Ezekiel Dockery, was taken to Mat-Su Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The medical examiner said the injuries were consistent with a victim in a car accident.

Sharpe said the child slipped and fell when getting into the shower.

Online court records didn’t list an attorney for Sharpe.
