EX-PARTNER OF PONZI SCHEMER PLEADS GUILTY
The former law partner of convicted Ponzi schemer Scott Rothstein has pleaded guilty to charges of violating federal campaign finance laws. During a brief hearing in Fort Lauderdale on Friday, 52-year-old Russell Adler pleaded guilty. He faces a maximum of five years in prison at a June 27 sentencing.
FORT HOOD VICTIM FROM CENTRAL FLORIDA
One of the three people killed by a gunman at the Fort Hood, Texas military base was from Florida. Spc. Ivan Lopez turned his gun on himself after killing three people - including Sgt. First Class Danny Ferguson - and wounding 16 others Wednesday at the base. Lt. Gen. Mark Milley, the commander of Fort Hood, said Friday that Ferguson was among the three killed. Ferguson was a 1993 graduate of Mulberry High School, in a small town between Orlando and Tampa.
TRAMPLED ULTRA FEST GUARD IMPROVING
A 28-year-old security guard who was trampled by ticketless gate-crashers at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami last weekend is slowly improving. She suffered a broken leg and skull fractures when the crowd pushed through a fence and trampled her.
CLERK WHO MISTOOK BODY FOR MANNEQUIN FIRED
A front desk clerk has been fired after mistaking the body of a tenant for a mannequin and then throwing it into a trash bin. The clerk told police he thought the body was part of an April Fools prank. The victim was a 46-year-old woman who authorities say committed suicide by jumping over a balcony in the 16-floor apartment building in St. Petersburg.
RAPPER ARRESTED IN SOUTH FLORIDA
Trick Daddy was arrested in Broward County on several charges, including possession of cocaine and possession of a weapon and ammunition by a convicted felon. The 39-year-old rapper, whose real name is Maurice Young, was arrested Thursday outside his home in Miramar.
