OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) - Managers of a new movie theater opening in Opelika are appealing to reluctant city officers to grant them a license to sell beer and wine alongside popcorn and sodas.
The Opelika-Auburn News reports (https://bit.ly/1iI0SE0) the Tiger 13 theater opens Thursday, two days after general manager Gary Krannacker told city council members the ability to sell alcohol would help meet local demand for a “more luxury theater.”
Some residents raised concerns and city council President Eddie Smith said he suspects the council will deny the license when it votes next Tuesday. However, he also noted a Gulf Shores theater that was denied an alcohol license last fall appealed and was granted one by the Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board.
