NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) - The Adams County Board of Supervisors has named Richard L. Bradford Sr. as director of the county emergency management agency.

The Natchez Democrat reports (https://bit.ly/POli2g ) Bradford will succeed outgoing director Stan Owens. Owens will work with Bradford until he retires June 30.

Bradford, a Belzoni native, joined the Army in 1991 after graduating from Alcorn State University with a degree in plant and soil science. Bradford is a major in the U.S. Army Reserves in Jackson.



Bradford was stationed at Camp Shelby in Hattiesburg when Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005 and worked under Gen. Russel L. Honoré to help plan relief and recovery efforts.

As emergency management director, Bradford will also serve as volunteer fire coordinator and homeland security director.

Bradford will be paid $36,500 annually.
