TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - A 34-year-old Tacoma woman has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of an 8-month-old boy she was babysitting.

The News Tribune reports (https://is.gd/OX8cAL ) that Jamie Thompson pleaded not guilty Wednesday in the death of little Jayceon Thomas, who died in early April. Thompson was ordered held on $1 million bail.

Charging papers say the child died of shaken baby syndrome.

The boy’s father, Iven Thomas, was in court for the arraignment. Pierce County prosecutors say the father left the child in Thompson’s care for several days while he was making new living arrangements.

Prosecutor Mark Lindquist says Pierce County sheriff’s detectives determined the baby was injured while he was in Thompson’s exclusive care.

The prosecutor says the woman has eight prior felony convictions as an adult, the most recent for custodial assault.
