WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - A central North Carolina radio personality has apologized to a Winston-Salem State University student whom he criticized in a series of slurs posted on Twitter.
The Winston-Salem Journal reports (https://bit.ly/QJagNa) Brian “B-DAHT” McLaughlin wrote in the tweets that Aaron McCorkle shouldn’t be elected Mr. WSSU because pictures posted online show McCorkle wearing women’s clothing. McLaughlin used numerous racial and gay slurs in the tweets.
McLaughlin, who issued his apology through his publicist, was the public-address announcer for WSSU’s football and basketball games last season and is a morning radio host. He said he has reached out to McCorkle, who he said has agreed to meet him to talk.
McCorkle, who had no immediate reaction to the apology, lost the election for the equivalent of a homecoming king by 162 votes.
