NEW YORK (AP) - Authorities have arrested two men for selling 39 guns to undercover officers near the Bronx Zoo and elsewhere on the streets of New York City.
Police Commissioner William Bratton and District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. announced the arrests on Thursday.
Authorities say one of the sellers smuggled the weapons from South Carolina. They say he sold the guns for about $1,000 a piece, sometimes in broad daylight.
Five of the sales took place within walking distance of the zoo. Another was made near a busy McDonald’s restaurant.
Bratton said the arrests demonstrated a commitment to continue former Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s aggressive campaign to stem the flow of illegal guns into the city.
