TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - The state meteorologist says north Florida is at risk for stormy weather spawned by the same system that produced a powerful tornado in Arkansas.
Amy Godsey of Florida’s Department of Emergency Management says river levels already are elevated, so the potential for flooding is high.
Officials say the storm system was expected to enter the region late Monday and linger through Wednesday night. Residents and business owners are being warned that frequent lightning strikes, gusty winds, hail, flash flooding and tornadoes are possible.
Up to 6 inches of rainfall is expected, and a flash flood watch has been issued until Wednesday for Florida’s Panhandle and Big Bend.
The tornado in Arkansas killed at least 14 people and carved an 80-mile path of destruction through suburban Little Rock.
