NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (AP) - A North Platte man accused of being inattentive while his 3-year-old stepson nearly drowned has been imprisoned.

On Monday 29-year-old Trever Perry was sentenced to three to five years. He was convicted after pleading no contest to a felony charge of negligent child abuse resulting in injury. He’s also known as Trevor Perry.

On May 6 last year Perry took Landon Schroeder to a pond near North Platte. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office says Perry didn’t watch Landon for an extended period of time and later found the boy underwater about 15 feet from the shoreline.

Authorities say Landon was unresponsive, but Perry did not call for help. He collected his gear and the boy and drove home. Landon’s mother rushed her son to a hospital.
