MAYFLOWER, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission says the agency will remove tornado debris that collected in Lake Conway after Sunday’s storms.

The commission said Tuesday that rubble from destroyed houses landed in the lake and that biologists have spotted large appliances and other debris in the water.

In addition to environmental concerns, the debris is blocking dam gates and is hindering efforts to regulate the lake’s water level. Also, having large debris in the lake presents a hazard to boats.

Officials say building materials, roofing, insulation, structural materials and furniture are also in the lake.

The commission says the tornado destroyed its maintenance shed, clubhouse and dog training facilities at the Camp Robinson Special Use Area.

Fifteen people were killed by the tornado that struck Little Rock’s western bedroom communities.
