LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - The Filson Historical Society in Louisville is breaking ground on an expansion project that will add 20,000 square feet to its downtown campus.

The $11 million project will add storage facilities, a digitization and preservation center, exhibit space and an event center. The new facility will be called The Owsley Brown II History Center for the former Brown-Forman chief executive who died in 2011. Brown’s family donated funds for the new expansion.

The groundbreaking is scheduled for May 8.

The project also includes a renovation of the 1905 Ferguson Mansion, the society’s home since 1986.
