HURON, S.D. (AP) - A grain and agronomy cooperative in South Dakota has given $50,000 to the state fairgrounds to build a new 4-H exhibit hall.

The state’s Department of Agriculture on Monday announced the donation from the cooperative Wheat Growers.

State officials have raised more than $2.2 million toward the $4 million project.

The proposed 47,000-square-foot hall will feature multiple classrooms, a large kitchen for 4-H special food competitions, year-round concessions and a performance stage.

The building that used to host some of those events was demolished last year. It had been built in the 1950s.

Fair officials expect construction to begin in the spring of 2015. The project should be finished by the end of the summer.

Officials earlier this month announced a $1 million donation from a Huron businessman.
