JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (AP) - A southern Indiana judge is warning the public not to fall for a scam designed to scare people into paying fabricated jury trial fines.
Clark County Judge Dan Moore says in a statement that a caller tells citizens they owe fines for not showing up for jury selection when they actually owe no such fines.
Moore calls the scam “a complete tactic aimed at scaring good citizens.”
The Clark County Sheriff’s Department says two people recently claimed to have received telephone calls from a man who told them a warrant would be issued for their arrest if they did not pay jury-duty fines.
The News and Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1lUgB1w ) one of those people told sheriff’s investigators the male caller said she needed to pay $996 to avoid arrest.
