PORT HURON, Mich. (AP) - A St. Clair County police officer has pleaded guilty to granting concealed pistol licenses to a class but failing to provide all required training.
The Times Herald of Port Huron reports (https://bwne.ws/1mSh9cj ) Monday the 27 felony counts of unlawfully granting pistol training certificates against Clay Township officer Ralph Cierpial were merged into one covering all of those taking his class. The 37-year-old was scheduled to stand trial on Wednesday and his sentencing will take place later.
The charges stem from the training held in March at a Port Huron church. Authorities say Cierpial provided classroom training but not required firing range instruction.
Prosecutor Mike Wendling says Cierpial will pay restitution.
Officials say Cierpial was placed on administrative duty in November, and his badge and gun also were taken away.
