ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. (AP) - The Jim Bridger Power Plant in Sweetwater County is installing up to $280 million in pollution-control equipment that will reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by 12 percent.
The Rock Springs Rocket-Miner reported Sunday (https://tinyurl.com/m36uh8c ) the installation is scheduled to be complete in 2016.
The equipment is required by new federal Environmental Protection Agency rules to reduce haze.
David Eskelsen of Rocky Mountain Power Co., one of the plant’s sponsoring companies, says utility bills are expected to increase by 3 to 4 percent as a result of the emissions standards. Calculating the exact increase is difficult because other factors could push prices down.
Eskelsen says costs and production both increased 2 to 2.5 percent a year from 2005 to 2010, but nitrogen oxide pollution decreased by 40 percent.
