GREENFIELD, Mass. (AP) - A Greenfield woman convicted of embezzling more than $450,000 while working for a lawyer is scheduled to be sentenced.

Melissa Wright is expected to be sentenced Monday after pleading guilty Friday in Franklin Superior Court to charges of check forgery, passing false checks, and larceny over $250.

Prosecutors say Wright embezzled the money from attorney Mark Berson over a period of years. Wright had been responsible for bookkeeping and other tasks at Berson’s law practice.

The Recorder (https://bit.ly/1hIhQNk ) reports that the 39-year-old Wright’s lawyer says his client was motivated by love for her boyfriend, using the money to buy toys for his children and to bail out his failing business.

But prosecutors say she was motivated by greed, spending the money on vacations, meals and entertainment.
