PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix firefighters whose helmets were burning due to intense heat inside a burning house rescued a dog which they had to resuscitate once they got it outside.

Fire Capt. Ruben Saavedra says the dog was barely breathing when firefighters found it but that its condition showed signs of improvement after about 20 minutes of oxygen.

Saavedra says four teenagers were asleep in the home early Monday morning when one woke up to smoke and fire. That teenager awoke others in the home and they all got out through bedroom windows.

Saavedra says there were no injuries to firefighters or to the teenagers.

According to Saavedra, the home didn’t have any working smoke detectors and was a total loss.

Cause of the fire is under investigation.
