CLANTON, Ala. (AP) - Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley is at the state’s emergency operations center and says he’ll stay there as long as necessary to monitor the severe weather system crossing the state.
Bentley spoke with Weather Channel anchors Monday night from the operations center in Clanton, saying his office was awaiting confirmation of storm-related deaths in some hard-hit areas.
Bentley encouraged Alabamians to take advantage of individual and community shelter areas, but said many residents are likely well aware of their options after experiences with a tornado in April 2011.
Bentley says residents should get to a safe place and continue checking local forecasts.
