MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) - Missoula police are investigating a fatal shooting involving a resident of a home and a possible intruder.

Police say the incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. Sunday and resulted in the death of a 17-year-old male.

The Missoula Police Department says that when police arrived at the scene, they found a male and female resident in front of the house and another male in their garage with a gunshot wound. The victim died later.

The male resident told police he found an intruder in his garage after an alarm went off and shot him with a shotgun.

Police say there was no indication that the person who was shot was armed and they took the 29-year-old male resident into custody.

Police Sgt. Travis Welsh says the shooting is under investigation.
