PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police are investigating a man’s shooting death that resulted from what police were told was a scuffle.
Sgt. Steve Martos says officers were conducting a welfare check when they found a 22-year-old man dead of gunshot wounds in a north side apartment Thursday afternoon.
They identified the man on Friday as 22-year-old Christopher Winston.
According to Martos, an 18-year-old man who lives at the apartment arrived with a friend and told police that the shooting occurred when he scuffled with Winston.
Martos says the 18-year-old man and his friend told police Winston had entered the apartment armed with a gun and then demanded items of value.
Police say the case will be submitted to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office for a decision on whether charges will be filed.
