LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - An attorney for the secretary of state has asked a Pulaski County judge who struck down Arkansas’ voter ID law from hearing a separate case challenging the new requirement.
Martha Adcock, general counsel for Secretary of State Mark Martin, on Friday asked Judge Tim Fox to recuse from a lawsuit filed last week challenging the new law. Fox on Thursday struck down the law in a separate case, saying it violates Arkansas’ constitution.
Adcock cited two lawsuits questioning the eligibility of Fox and his former challenger over judicial suspensions. Martin was a co-defendant in both cases.
The state is appealing Fox’s ruling striking down the law. A hearing is scheduled for May 2 over the other lawsuit challenging the voter ID restriction.
