GONZALES, La. (AP) - Gonzales city councilmen Gary Lacombe and Timothy Vessel are the targets of a recall effort.
Organizers of the effort Wednesday notified the Secretary of State’s Office of the petition drive that is co-chaired by Gonzales residents Chuck LeBlanc and Wandetta Reynard.
LeBlanc tells The Advocate (https://bit.ly/1mFnSWY) that among the reasons behind the recall efforts are Lacombe’s and Vessel’s repeated blocking of changes from retail zoning to heavier commercial zoning in the city.
“Over the last 16 to 18 months, it looks like they’re more concerned at playing politics,” LeBlanc said. “They just don’t have the city’s best interest” in mind.
A group of citizens called SaveGonzales will be actively working to gather signatures for the petitions, LeBlanc said.
The recall effort has 180 days to gather the signatures of one-third of the registered voters in Gonzales for each petition. Approximately 2,100 signatures are required before their names will appear on a ballot.
The SaveGonzales groups will hold a public meeting Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Carlico Cafe in Gonzales to give more information about the recall effort.
