HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) - A Washington County, Ore., sheriff’s spokesman says a 26-year-old female inmate has died at the county jail in Hillsboro after an apparent medical emergency.

The Oregonian reports (https://is.gd/iOphsR ) that Sgt. Bob Ray says the woman was in the jail’s medical observation unit Thursday morning when she developed apparent complications and died.

The spokesman says the woman was booked April 16 on a possession of a controlled substance charge and was transferred to the medical observation unit earlier this week.

She was not identified pending notification of relatives.

Ray says the last inmate death at the jail was in May 2012, when a man from El Salvador hung himself with a piece of cloth.
