DETROIT (AP) - Detroit attorney Godfrey Dillard says he’s seeking the Democratic nomination for Michigan attorney general.
Dillard’s career includes service with the U.S. State Department during the Carter and Reagan administrations. He’s also worked in favor of affirmative action policies at the University of Michigan.
In a statement released Thursday, the 65-year-old Dillard says he wants “truth, fairness and justice” in Michigan courts.
The Democratic Party later this year will pick a candidate to challenge Attorney General Bill Schuette, a Republican, in the fall election. Mark Totten also wants the Democratic nomination. He’s a Michigan State University law professor and a former Justice Department lawyer.
