GREENVILLE, Miss. (AP) - The city of Greenville has received $800,000 to build a 1.7-mile walking trail along the top of the Mississippi River levee.
The funds came from the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
The Delta Democrat-Times reports (https://bit.ly/PtUap5 ) the city will put up $200,000.
The trail will begin at the base of the levee at Ferry Road to just north of the Greenville Yacht Club.
Mayor John Cox says the trail will attract residents and visitors.
The walking trail will include a 16-foot-wide paved surface, parking, lighting, benches and emergency phones.
The City Council at its May 6 meeting will consider giving its final approval for the project.
Cox says construction could begin within six months.
