NEW YORK (AP) - Bernie Goetz (GEHTS) is headed toward a trial in his New York marijuana case after rebuffing a plea offer involving 10 days of community service.
A defense lawyer told a judge Thursday that Goetz remains uninterested in that deal.
Goetz is preparing for a trial in the Manhattan court complex where he was tried in 1985 for shooting four panhandling youths on a subway train. He was acquitted of attempted murder but convicted of a weapons charge in a case that made him a symbol of what some considered self-defense and others called vigilantism.
Goetz was arrested in December on misdemeanor charges of selling $30 worth of marijuana to an undercover officer.
He says if prosecutors want a conviction, they can let a jury decide.
He’s due back in court for pretrial hearings in June.
