PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A north Portland woman who has kept backyard chickens for 10 years knows there’s some attrition. She’s lost chickens to dogs and raccoons. This time, the muddy footprints tell her she’s dealing with a two-legged chicken rustler - who took her entire flock.

The Oregonian reports (https://is.gd/MqEsZ1) that Dianne Hosford returned home on April 17 to an unusually quiet backyard. The footprints led back through a privacy fence. There the chicken coop gate stood open and a 60-pound brooder cage was gone. So were her six chickens.

Hosford says nothing else was stolen and none of her neighbors has any leads. She says many of them also keep chickens and she’s never received any complaints about her flock.

She reported the chicken heist to police, who came and investigated. They haven’t found the thieves or the flock.

Hosford says she’s looking for some new chickens.
