Former scuba instructor convicted of murder

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - A former scuba instructor has been convicted in Spokane of murdering a former girlfriend on New Year’s Day in 2012.

The Spokesman-Review reports (https://is.gd/Kc1VRY ) that Daniel Arteaga will be sentenced in June for the death of Kimberly Schmidt. A jury convicted him Wednesday.

Schmidt died of a single gunshot wound to the head. Her body was found by her mother.

Arteaga denied killing the woman.
