NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A damaged sign is causing major traffic delays on Interstate 40 in North Little Rock as crews shut down lanes to remove the structure.

Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department spokesman Danny Straessle says a dump truck that did not have its bed all the way down hit a sign structure Wednesday. The collision happened in the westbound lanes of I-40 east of the Interstate 430 interchange.

Straessle tells the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (https://bit.ly/1mzFroP ) that the impact knocked down one sign and caused so much damage that the whole structure will have to be removed. A crane is en route to the site and all westbound lanes will be shut down once it arrives.

Straessle encouraged drivers to use alternate routes to avoid the traffic backup. Eastbound lanes are not affected.
