EDGEWOOD, Md. (AP) - The Harford County Sheriff’s Office says several homes were evacuated after an SUV crashed into a townhouse and severed a natural gas line, causing a leak.

It happened about 11:40 a.m. Tuesday in Edgewood. Deputies say an SUV 42-year-old driven by Samuel O’Neill Dowling of Edgewood crashed into the townhouse.

Police found Dowling, who they say apparently suffered a medical emergency, unconscious in the vehicle, whose engine was racing.

Deputies removed Dowling toe safety, then began getting nearby residents to leave their homes.

Dowling was taken to a local hospital. BGE shut off the leak.
