TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - Pierce Transit may spend nearly half a million dollars over the next three years on a marketing consultant to improve its public image.

The transit board’s executive committee is recommending a contract in a May 12 vote by the full board that would spend up to $450,000.

The News Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/QCP1M8 ) the first step would be a survey asking riders and non-riders what they expect from the transit system. Next, the project would aim to correct public misperceptions and identify areas of improvement.

Pierce Transit includes $150,000 for public relations work in this year’s $119 million budget. The agency says $150,000 also could fund about 1,000 hours of service.
